Woah - I saw the thread title, "White Tail Deer", then saw your location, northern CA. As I was waiting for the pics to load, I was wondering where there are Whitetails in CA? Then once the pics became visible I realized; they're actually Blacktail Deer, or possibly a Mule Deer (Blacktailed Deer and Mule Deer are closely related and very similar). Whitetails have smaller ears and the distinctive, huge, white tail.

Here's a pic of a Whitetail (attached). If you don't see the big white "flag" when it's running away from you, then it's not a Whitetail.

deer is the plural, no need for the "s" at the end...
