S90 Rear Wheel - Do Nothing?

I've heard complaints about the rear wheel of the S90 spinning too freely. There isn't a positive click feeling. People are inadvertently changing the ISO or whatever custom function they have it set to. So my question is can the rear wheel be set to do nothing?

Have you actually tried the S90 yet?

Loads of people dont have any issues with the wheel. Ive never changed anything by mistake.

You buy an S90 because it packs a powerful punch in a tiny package. I'll take the slightly loose dial over the size of the G11 every time.

Yep, same her.
If size isnt important then i guess the G11 is a better option but that wasn't my priority.

For what its worth my wheel seems to need almost a 1/4 turn before it changes anything.

I have the aperture and shutter speed located on the wheel and think it's extremely convenient. Don't find it too loose.

Mine is super free wheeling, and what I consider to be a major design flaw. Just touching it will change the setting. I have learned to keep an eye on it, but it should have never been like that in the first place. Shame on Canon for this fluke. In spite of this, I have learned to like the camera a lot!

I can understand your frustration but has it not occoured to you that yours might be faulty?
After all, mine is ok and the other three ive tried (one in a shop and two mates) were exaclty the same as mine.

I had one before I bought this one and returned for other reasons, and it worked the same. The display in the store worked the same, and I have a friend that has one that works the same as mine. Yet, I've heard others on forums say there's is not so touchy, while many others say there's is very touchy. So if I got a bad copy, I think many others did also.

This person's blog tells of tales of woe with the wheel, until she got the Grip.

And, here's a discussion of the wheel on DPR.

Gail has been very vocal about her wheel. She says it turns on its own.
It seems like not all S90's are built equal but i really think hers is an exception.

I'm in the minority here, I like the wheel the way it is. My wheel seems to be a touch stiffer than some demo models I've tried. I hold my S90 with the "Double C" grip so I never brush it accidentally. When I need to make a quick ISO or EC adjustment its a quick flick away.

I also like the wheel the way it is, and have not had a problem yet.

Me too I like the wheel the way it is. You can quickly make adjustments which is the beauty of the free spinning wheel.
