SO I finally got my 5D, didn't have any cf cards, ordered a couple but had to wait for the time being. Found an old one so snapped a couple shots and wanted to put them on the computer.

I tried to use the software I had for my 500D, didn't work.
I updated the software from canon online, didn't work.
I threw out all 500D and installed 5D cd, didn't work.
Used an older USB cable (5D didn't come with one), didn't work.

So now I'm getting really annoyed, why won't my mac (27" imac) find my 5D?
Youre just supposed to plug in the usb and turn the camera on right? (doesn't state in manual.)

And PLEASE no 'use a card reader' comments, if I had one yeah duh I'd be using it. But I dont have one yet and it's sunday so that doesn't help.

What else can I try?

Edit: My goal was to use the macs built in SD reader to use the 500D and use the usb for the 5D.

The only thing I can think of is the "PC Communication" setting in the menu of the 5D. I'm one of the card reader people. I have never tried to download directly from the camera.

Canon 5D classic and Snow Leopard will not work together. Its considered old technology and neither support each other. Anyway thats what both Canon and Apple told me. Your going to have to get a reader. Sorry.

Newer cameras not working with older CS's. Forcing people to buy the upgrade.

It takes a couple of steps really...

1) realize that photography is not cheap if you want convenience
2) get a card reader
3) get LR or Aperture 3.

Canon was supposed to build in support for a 2010 OS and Photo Editors into their 2005 camera model? How would that even be possible?

The software for the old Canon 5D is not compatible with Snow Leopard and Canon says the old 5D is to old to make an upgraded driver.

Card Reader $30.00

I got mine for $13.00, and another one "free" with a CF card.

Should have bought a PC, oh wait no windows 7 support either. I hate the card reader as I dislike pulling the card out of the camera as I'm paranoid that it will bend the pins. But the card reader is at least twice as fast as using the camera to transfer images so it's worth the hassle.

Backwards compatibility. Either canon shouldve negotionated soemthing with apple for support or they shouldve released an update of software that does work. Not just ignore all the people who spent a lot of money on both the computer and the camera.

It's not a big deal, you can just use a card reader but it should be possible.

Yeah, again, not the issue at hand, plus card readers go for $20 here vs $1 on ebay, so yes I will wait.

What does that have anything to do with the camera not connecting to the computer?
