there are a few 70-300 Sigma variants
according to sigmaphoto.com - the 70-300 DL Macro doesn't have a red ring
http://www.sigmaphoto.com …f4-56-dl-m-dg-macro-sigma (external link)

And with the red ring:
http://www.sigmaphoto.com …4-56-apo-m-dg-macro-sigma (external link)

And then these 2 showup as being discontinued:
70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Macro Super II
70-300mm F4-5.6 DL Macro Super II

Lookout for those DL/DG/APO codes... Can't tell you which you want, which to avoid, but I can tell you that some of these older Sigma lenses may or may work properly with newer bodies, and may eventually not work with newer stuff, and Sigma may or may not offer a lot of support for it (especially if it's been discontinued for a while)

If you can try it before buying it, for $60 it could be a decent lens!

i always read the APO version was the best of the bunch...that one sounds old...if it's old it might not work with your 7D

If it's not going to work with a newer lens like the 7D, then yeah it would be $60 wasted...
