T1i for travel?

Hi. I'm upgrading from a P&S (S410) and would like some opinions from T1i/DSLR owners regarding a camera that can also be used as a "travel" camera.
I was considering a T1i, but my brother who does quite a bit of traveling (and uses a DSLR) recommended that I look at the G11 for better portability.
Any thoughts?

Different creatures. G11 is a great camera with a lot of the same user defined controls that you would find on a dslr. But the interface makes all the difference in the world. Composing an image while looking at a screen is a different experience than looking through a viewfinder. That combined with the ability to change lenses make the T1I a better option. But it does take up considerably more space.

It really depends on what you want to carry. If your not against carrying a small bag on your back or on over your shoulder... the DSLR provides many benefits (image quality, versatility, faster performance, looking through the lens).

I'd go for the T1i, unless it's out of your budget. Get a case that holds a single DSLR w/ One Lens attached and sling it over your shoulder... or get a larger bag that holds your camera and other items.
