Okay, talk me out of this. I'm a relative newb with a newly acquired love to shoot because of the 50mm 1.8 I picked up for Christmas. About 15 months ago, I purchased the
T1i body and the 18-55mm and 55-250mm kit lenses that came with it. I am becoming a good shot with all the lenses and am getting really decent IQ.
Two areas though that have been challenging to shoot are my son's indoor track meets and my daugthers horse shows that are held in indoor arenas. The 55-250mm has done okay, but nothing to write home about in IQ. I also enjoy shooting (and photographing) wildlife while hunting.

So I think the 70-200mm 2.8L IS II would be just the ticket for those indoor needs and a big step up for wildlife shots as well.
It's not a huge reach financially for me, but just the thought of laying down $2K+ on a lens is a hard one to wrap my head around so I'm trying to talk myself out of this. The worst thing that could happen is for me to be disappointed in not getting a large enough improvement in IQ, I get disillusioned, sell the camera at 75-85% of original price, and move on with my life.

Right?
You and I are in the same boat. I also owned the T1i along with the 55-250mm. I recently sold them to a friend and bought the 7D along with the 70-200mm 2.8 IS II. (I owned the F/4 for about a week and returned it) For the money the 55-250mm is VERY nice. But, make no mistake about it. There isn't even a comparison. If the 70-200mm 2.8 IS II was going for over 4,000, i'd still buy it! LOL. (Worth every penny and I'm still in the process of learning about the camera and the lens).
And remember. The rebate ends at the end of the week along with a rumor that Canon will be raising their prices by 10%. So, you could end up paying close to 2500.00 for it. So if anyone is going to pull the trigger, now is the time.
