Later tonight from home, I am going to post shots of still images taken indoors. You guys will ahve to pardon my ignorance with 7D but in manual mode it wouldn't allow me to increase/decrease exposure. I will post some more tonight.

And the most recent shot was taken outdoors in shade (on my sundeck) on a very gloomy day. I used on-camera flash. Will be bying 580 EXII soon.

As Silverfox1 suggested, I increased the in camera sharpness and contrast. But ACDSee EXIF still shows sharpness at -1 irrespective of what is in the camera. Maybe it is supposed to be like that. If not, then 7D is doing fishy things. It is a recent purchase too.

Here are a couple of indoor shots on still subjects. Metamucil box had centre point spot focus on the dot of "i". No flash used in this shot. The scond shot is also indoors with no flash on. The colours on the plastic body are quite dull in real. No PP on any of them.

Do these reflect what this lens should be producing? If not, then I am sending the 7D for calibration becasue using the 50mm lens on it is also giving me a bit softer images than the same lens used to give me previously on the 50D.

Both of those shots look okay. The first one is deceiving because you are shooting down on the package AND it is facing away from you. This is providing OOF elements in all four directions.

If you 7D is under warranty, you can send it to Canon for calibration free of charge (well, you have to cover shipping).

Both of those shots are at 1/13 shutter speed. You need a faster shutter speeds to make sure that camera shake is not your problem. I'm starting to think that there's absolutely nothing wrong with your camera or lens.

Even with Image Stabilization on, 1/13 seconds is way too slow for 200mm focal length. You have a 7D. Do not be afraid to bump that ISO to 1600 to get higher shutter speeds. Try this again with a higher ISO. Again, watch the shutter speed.

Some recent wildlife shots with the 70-200 + 2x III . . . . .

All shots were cropped by varying amounts.

There were quite a few mis-hits on focus, the combo is pretty heavy, think that I might need to move to monopod for this combo going forward. :o

QUOTED IMAGE

Awesome shot!! Was that done with strobes? The shadows on the wall and highlights on the face lead me to believe that it cannot possibly be ambient.

Alien Bee B800 strobes triggered by Plus II pocket wizards. No way to get those skin tones and colors without supplemental lighting.

As suggested shoot at a horizontal plane, f2.8, AV mode, at 100mm versus 200mm, and provide a little more ambient lighting if you want to keep the ISO at 400 to minimize noise. This should get the SS up to around 1/30 +.

Looks like your body & Lens are O.K. on my 24" monitor .

Regards, ;)
