So what's your thought on this? Is the IQ comparable to the 100-400?

FYI, i purchased the 70-200 IS Mk II a couple of months ago, I have been shooting grandson's lacrosse games and the last couple of games have added the Canon 1.4 extender...I am amazed at the sharpness and quality of the shots, once you learn that you have to also have the correct shutter speed when shooting moving objects....best money i have spent to date. Have been using on a 40D, cant wait to try some portraits with it on my 5Dc.

Canon 1D MK IV, Canon 1D MK III, Canon 5D, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8 L IS MK II, 17-40 F4 Canon, 430 EX, Canon A2E, 530EX Canon 1.4 Extender, 580 II, 600EX-RT, ST-E3-RT, (Way too much stuff for an amateur)

I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It's as least as sharp as my 100-400 and may be better at shorter focal lengths than since the 100-400 is weak at ~100.

Thanks. I have the Kenko 1.4 TC and I'm impressed by the IQ as well. I'll definitely need a 2x though and since things get far more serious at x2, I need to decide whether I'll invest on the Canon II or III series or go Kenko PRO 300 DGX..
Silverfox1 has provided some pretty good tests, but I still need more feedback from more users before I'll make my decision..

Thank you so much for the properties on the baseball batter shot. You have given me some room for possible improvement. You have sharpness in the image which I have not yet found. Understanding the lighting was not what you would have liked it to be I really like the quality of your capture. I prefer the first image back lighting but both are nice. You have ball, partial face and action posture.
....I have not had much clear sky and sunlight all this Spring. Our team alone had 14 schedule changes which includes a few changes on the changes. We have played in more rain than I have ever seen in my lifetime. We had two nice sunny days.
It is entirely possible we will not complete our scheduled games this year.

The 70 X 200 gives a whole new meaning of purpose and need for getting my neck and upper body stretched professionally every two weeks. Some of that meaning comes from hours of bad positioning posture wise of the body when working the keyboard for deletions. Senior users will certainly have some need to space the work time periods with this new lens and the older bodies of the photographer. My issues so far have not been outside of what I think is common sense. I believe the lens may in time help those who have or develop muscular aches and pains. I'm seventy five. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. That means I'm sticking to the 20 X 200 and the leadership of this forum hoping to become a little better each time out.

Hey, that's all the reason I need to get out and purchase this lens!!
I just keep groping through adds trying to find a deal on one. However, I think that the longer I wait, the harder it will be to find this lens. Just hate to turn loose of $2500. for a single lens!

If you want a good deal, sometimes Canon sells refurbished ones on their site. :)

Well don't be like I was and lust for the lens.....I purchased other lens trying to think I don't need to spend 2500 on one lens but guess what if you want something as bad as I did you will never stop wanting to have it until you just do it LOL! Best purchase along side with my 5D Mark II that I have ever spent money on.
You won't regret it. I also worried about carrying it around because people kept saying "It is soooo heavy" The weight doesn't bother me at all and I'm a 52 year old gal with a body that has been through 3 car accidents!:D

All I can say is, I am glad that I finally got this lens. I can also add that:

1. It is not as heavy and unbearable as some tend to make it out to be.
2. It is as sharp as most have made it out to be (and more).
3. You have the ability to use slower shutter speeds because of the IS and maintain the utmost image quality

I must say that I am impressed thus far with this lens and I haven't even had it a week as of yet.
Just spend the cash and hurry up and get over the initial sticker shock (it'll be quick, I guarantee it).

Well I DID IT YA'LL --- It was the hardest time I've ever had to hit that "SUBMIT" button, but I did it!!! When I rented the lens, I've never made as sharp a picture in my life, as what came out of my camera with this lens... After looking at many different sites, and seeing the word - UNAVAILABLE--- I decided I would really regret it, if I let a lens shortage keep me from owning one. So I went with B&H for their repuation. New Egg, and Adaroma neither has the lens in stock.

I don't feel any REGRET!! I just hit the "submit" button! Should be in my hands by Friday! I really need to get a grip for my t2i, I've read where it helps stability..
My "want" list just keeps on growing!
But as for now, I'm very content!
