Just received my copy today. Based on a few test shots:

  • auto-focus is very fast, and very accurate.
  • Sharpness and detail, even when viewing at 100%, is very good.
  • Color and contrast seem to be very good as well.

So far, I'm pleased. I hope to get out an do some real shooting tomorrow, after which I'll have a much better feel for the performance of the lens.

Test shot - focus point is at the base of the middle tulip; shot handheld at 200mm, f/2.8, ISO 100, 1/20 sec, EC -2/3

Haven't had any time to shoot with my newest acquisition, other than just a couple of test shots.

Can't wait to take it for some workout. Soon, I hope.

i just got my copy of the II today, started testing it but kind of unhappy because Beach Camera sent me a (supposed to be new but) already opened item and sloppily put back together, before sending to me. So besides not sending out my lens until 5 days after receiving my money, they sent me an already opened $2500 item !

How would you guys feel, in the same situation?

The best thing to do is check for damage and put it on the camera and shoot it. If there's no issues with the lens then keep it. If you feel unhappy that it was opened, I would call them back and ask for an unopened BNIB. :)

I agree. It may have simply been taken out of the box to show a customer. I would check it out myself, make sure it has no scratches/marks, take some test shots, and generally make sure it's working OK.

A few more shots with the new 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM. It was very windy, and rather cold today, so unfortunately my opportunities were a little limited.

Did you use some extention tubes or is this just the 70-200mm on the FF-camera?

I would like a product that isn't be used. Get some information about it at your store and check the lens on flaws.

No extension tubes. Just the lens itself, at 200mm.
