Thanks for the thanks! :) I was happy to post photos and my impression. I owe the participants on this site (and others) a LOT of thanks for everything I've learned over the years. Too many photography manufacturers don't do a competent job of providing good photographs of the stuff they are selling. Imagine that.... an expectation that a company that sells PHOTO equipment would actually provide decent PHOTOS (including closeups) of the equipment! Silly, I know!

It's my pleasure to "give back". And, hopefully, someone that's helped by it will someday give back themselves. And so it goes....

I've only seen the Photoflex grids at B&H, Rob. If memory serves, I think they're a bit more substantial than the one I saw at Calumet today. However, the Calumet grid fit the box very well and was extremely light weight. There was very little sag across the face of the softbox. It also appeared that the Velcro holding the grid in place was the full depth of the grid material but here I could be mistaken.

A year or so back I was very tempted to get the medium Calumet Illuma which is 30" x 40" and only 14" deep. It comes with two graduated internal baffles which are supposed to compensate for the shallow depth and even out the light across the face of the box (at the cost of some lumens, no doubt). At the time, there were no grids available for any of the Calumet branded softboxes so I move didn't buy. Now with a grid available, I'm a bit interested again.

I have the Illuma 30x40 and love it. And I've been using an Alien Bee large grid on it. The AB site says dimensions of the grid are 32x40, but if fits the Illuma great. And works fantastic. $40.

That's great news, Chris. Thanks for posting. Next time you have the Illuma set up with the grid, do you think you could take a photo of it? I'd love to see how a 32 x 40 fits in a 30 x 40 softbox.

I've long suspected/wondered that/if Calumet soft boxes are made by Photoflex. Or, at least by the same company that makes boxes for Photoflex.
