I was at Callaway Gardens for the Birds of Prey shows, and between shows went for a walk. I noticed a Great Blue Heron was very close to a foot bridge fishing for lunch, so I decided to have a seat and see what happened. It started off about 10-15 yards away, and gradually came to within about 5 yards.

The first 4 are a sequence of the next hour or so.

The 5th is later after I had had some lunch, it was hanging around in a different area.

Super shots. You must have been very persistent to get some of these.

Some great captures, but either some slight misfocus or movement in a couple.

Damn, I've just moved back to the UK after 4 years and many visits to Callaway - never seen a Heron there. Nice shots, especially with the "flying fish".

It wasn't that much of an ordeal to watch the heron fishing away. Was quite a pleasant day, and sitting in the sun watching something I hadn't seen before was actually a nice way to spend some time.

I was most disappointed about the fish in the air shot not quite being sharp/focus Suspect it was because the Heron was just so quick at tossing the fish and eating.

Seems some herons have taken up residence, as there are about 4-5 regulars there now. This one I've seen across the lake numerous times, but never gotten either a close up, or an in flight shot.
