Okay I'm sure its been discussed I just can't find it. I need memory for my new 5D mkll, what is the recommended cards and card sizes. My 5D Classic is perfectly content with San Disk Extreme lll and lV 4GB cards but the files sizes on the new camera have me a bit concerned. I have looked at San Disk's inventory and I can't decide if the 16GB Extreme Professional Grade is usable or do I need to go with the the Extreme Pro which is almost $100 more. I'd like this to economical but do not want to sacrifice quality.

Canon 5D and 20D, 70-200mm f2.8L, 24-70mm f2.8L,
35-80mm, 70-210mm, 18-55mm, 85mm f/1.8, 135mm f/2L
lightmeter, tripod, studio lights

I run a 8GB SanDisk Ultra II 15mb/s card in my 5DII without issue

How do the files sizes worry you? Not being to hold enough or them not writing fast enough? With a 5D2 I doubt you are doing action shots all the time, I wouldn't worry about speed too much. If it is size, I have always like larger cards over smaller cards. I have a 8GB Sandisk Ultra II 30MB/s in my 5D classic.

I have always preferred the smaller cards as I do some weddings and don't like putting all my shots on one card. If it goes bad I've lost everything so a 4 GB on a Classic is a nice managable size. The new 5D has a much larger file size when shooting RAW so I want a card that is comprable to my 4GB on the Classic.

If you are worried about memory cards going bad, maybe you need a 1Ds2 or 1Ds3 instead of a 5D2... they have two slots and let you write the same file to both.

It sounds like you may have answered the question yourself :) Arguably, an 8GB card would give you approximately the same storage capacity on the 5DMKII as a 4GB on the 5D. I use the 8GB Sandisk Extreme 30MB/s cards on the Mark II for that very reason.

Thanks OllyP and liclic That was exactly the info I was looking for. I think I'll probably go with one of each as we do want to do some video.
