I love my 40D, but lens changes are annoying so I am considering a backup body. Options range from 300D, 350D, 400D, 10D, 20D, 30D. Any others I should consider? I am trying to keep cost down, around $150-200.

At that price range I think you are locked into a 10D or 300D. If you can go up about another $50 to $100 you could grab a nice used 20D, which would be my vote.

I think your backup should be similar in style/use to your primary. That leaves out the 300D, 400D and 350D to me as well.

What are you looking for in a backup? A xxxD or xxxxD series will be lighter and easier to carry as you will now have two bodies, but I think for ease of use, a 20D is the best for you.

20D so your controls, batteries, grips and memory is the same.

20D. Almost as cheap as the 10D but doesn't take 3 seconds to "boot".

That's why I got rid of my 400D. I loved the camera but hated having different batteries and chargers. I got my 20D with grip for $250... IMO a really good deal but if you look hard enough you can find one too. :)

get another 40D...having identical cameras will make your work more
efficient since you're familiar with the tool already.

Hey "sbddude" (Dauntless Dude?)

Your SIG says you already have a 40D and 350D. Is that true? How many cameras do you want?

Don't forget the big problem with the 10D is lens mount incompatibility with EF-S glass.

I recently bought a nice 30D with 18-55 kit for 300, and a 40D body really nice for 500 US, so deals "are out there." Both these were local area Craigslist

350D broke. Hence why I am looking for another one.

All my lenses are either EF or third party. No issue with the 10D.

Just keep in mind the LCD display on the 10D and 20D is TINY. The 30D has a 2.5 which is fine.
