I'm heading to a stage lighting supply store later this week to pick up some new gel colors. But, before I go, I wanted to know what colors I already have and figure out which colors I might want to get. Since the only color gels I have so far is the 10-pack Elinchrom #26243 Kit, figuring out the colors I already have was not a simple task. Elinchrom doesn't seem to publish the color names or numbers anywhere.
So, I spent a bit of time comparing the Elinchrom colors to the swatches in my Roscolux swatch book. While I know my swatch book doesn't have every Rosco color, I was able to get pretty darn close in color matching. Not exact, mind you, but close enough to know which colors NOT to get so I didn't come too close to buying colors I already have.
Anyway, just in case anyone else starts wondering what color that might be in the Elinchrom kit, I'm sharing my findings here.
Two of the included Elinchrom gels are two different shades of grey. I wasn't able to find a very close match for either of them. Two of the included Elinchrom gels are clear diffusion gels, I didn't bother to try finding a match for those. That leaves 6 colors in the Elinchrom kit. In equivalent Rosco names and numbers they are:
#21 - Golden Amber
#25 - Orange Red
#42 - Deep Salmon
#69 - Brillant Blue
#312 - Canary
#386 - Leaf Green
