That's odd. I've called Westcott on a number of occasions and always gotten through to very helpful people.

A Westcott representative followed up this morning. They offered to have their technical person contact me. I believe he is currently working the Wedding Photographers show in Las Vegas. I was told that they had an email problem a few weeks ago. For the moment I am content to use the solution provided by ninext.

Regards,

All well and good but an absurd thing to have to concoct just to get a softbox to tilt. Utterly ridiculous.

Actually the Apollo is specifically designed for power pack heads that have their own tilt mechanism.

You're thinking of the Apollo Mono, not the Apollo intended for Speedlight's and hot shoe flashes. There are two versions.

three umbrella adaptors because the FlexTT5 with the Speedlite on top was too tall and too far into the Apollo given the position of the center point of the 4 zippers.
I placed the third adapter on the shaft and tilted it so the Speedlite was laying along the shaft.

As others have pointed out. There are other solutions that go together just a quickly or faster, given the jerry rigging.

Its single attraction is the size when folded up.

The Apollo kit for speedlights contains the tilt adapter:

It comes with an umbrella bracket, yes, but look at the image. The tilt is happening inside the box. The bracket they provide is so it can be mounted and so the L mounting bracket can be installed.

Everyone I've ever known that got the Apollo went through the exact same thing and people are either accepting that it has limited ability to tilt or doing a mod or rigging the arm with the umbrella adapter outside the box.

Seriously, check out an Apollo and you'll see what I mean. I'm not just being hypercritical or looking for something wrong. When I received my Apollo I looked at this situation very carefully and after determining that the design just wasn't that great I returned mine.

I solved the tilt problem by using a mini boom. I think it was around $30 from B&H. A short extension and another umbrella bracket will work also but the mini boom gives me additional balance.

Hi Lance.

The boom is a good and very simple idea. If you're on location it's an extra item that adds weight and bulk but it does solve the tilt problem.
