Hello everyone! Just wanted to share some of the pics from my last trip in good 'ol Freddy (C-5). I finally broke down and took all my gear so that I could really get some great pics. Most were shot with a 5D and 17-40, while others were with the 70-200 f/4 non-IS.

Let me know what you think and C&C is always welcomed!!!

Cheers

1. Shot out the #1 hatch, and at 17mm, this pic shows just how wide a C-5 is

2. a shot of the enormous cargo box of the C-5 with two, out of the three, de-icing trucks we hauled
IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2727/4387751761_f51fdf955e_o.jpg

3. using the wacky UWA perspective I turned Freddy into a cartoon!
IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2635/4412289360_625f2f5f25_o.jpg

4. me in my "office"
IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2751/4411520561_4df17c9cfd_o.jpg

5. an HDR pic of sunrise over Manas AB
IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2706/4406599213_078f1f509c_o.jpg

6. a C-17 "Barney" (Fred's little fat friend that gets all the attention) landing at Spangdhalem AB, Germany
IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2677/4412296490_97d882b953_o.jpg

7. also at Spangdhalem AB, this Viper is calling it a day
IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4022/4412297230_7985bc1d73_o.jpg

8. another HDR pic, this time of a Dover AFB C-5 sitting on the ramp next to us

I LOVE MY JOB!!!

Great set of images! I really like #'s 3, 4 & 5. That HDR of Manas AB is really very cool.

Those are awsome! Only one change I would have made is #1. I would have centered the lens over the center of the fuselage where the black lines would have been symmetricaly centered in the shot.

Nice shots, but you need some plants in your office.

Anyone else think #3 looks like Thunderbird 1? FAB...

Really nice series. Fun to look at.

A great mixture of superb shots! Love the creative ones and 'non standard' angles...

No wonder you love your job!

Love the pic with the lineup of all the C5's. Looks either futuristic or super cold. Like the giants are waking to the sunrise or something. Nice.

Those are some great shots! That "cartoon" looking one is very original! How did you get it?

Thanks! The HDR was probably my fourth try, but the way the sun was coming up over the KC-135s screamed for it.

I took dozens of different angles for that shot and I agree with you. Next time I have a chance I'm going to re-compose that one to get it right.

Thanks!

Nice series. Great interior shots & sunrise.

Thank you. All interior shots were hand held just using iso 1600 (max) at around 1/15s or so. #2 is actually iso1600 around 1/4s! the 5D is an amazing camera

Ha! I'll try to bring in a little more "greenery" next time

All I need is the "Thunder chicken" on the belly and we'll be set

I do love my job and being creative around Freddy is pretty easy, but making the shots work is a different story.

Thanks!

It was really cold that morning, temps right around 25F or -4C...brrrrr

i used the 17-40 @ 17mm and knelt just under the nose at about 3 feet from the plane itself. trying to get the perspective and angles just right took about 20 pics.

Thank you. Same here, grew up watching them fly over my house and now I fly her around the world!
