I decided this spring to finally clean up our lake's spillway and make it photographable. It was a mess, with logs and leaves blocking it everywhere. I have put a few days of work into (still much more to do) but I have a nice start on it. We got our first spring downpour today and the waterfall was going strong, so here is the first set of shots from it. C&C always welcome.

Edit: Updated a few shots slightly.

Looks great! My parents have a spillway similar to this... Makes me think I should work on it some.

Great series but the third image has it for me.

I would like to see it with a tad more saturation to bring out the foreground leaves'other than that its great.

Nice series, I enjoyed all of them. Only thing I could add is maybe a longer shutter on the first to get more swirl in the pool top right.

Thanks! The third is one of my favorites as well and I really wanted to keep it color because I got a few different spots of moss in the shot. I may trying an edit with more saturation and see how it looks.

Very nice series, really like 2 and 7. Composition of 7 is outstanding.

Thanks! The first shot is probably my favorite. Only two things lacking were more shutter speed and a clear blue sky. It was one of the first shots I took, a couple hours before sunset, and I wasn't getting long enough shutter speeds. I should have just stopped down but hindsight is 20/20. I don't own a ND filter yet but I will be ordering one or two very soon for spring. I did use my CPL for all these shots.

Beautiful series, worth the clean-up effort.

Thanks! I am very excited about the possibilities of the area this spring. Still much work to do. In fact I am heading out to do more work right now. :)

First, I Love them, 7s my fav.
Second, Dumb question, whats a spill way? My thoughts a spill way was part of a dams overflow system.
Is this a river on your own property?

Thanks! It's funny how photography has really made me appreciate where we live. We have a lake (that needs lots of work too!), lots of land and of course my favorite thing which is this waterfall area. Before I got into photography I didn't care about how our land looked but now I want to tidy the whole place up!

The spillway is where our pond drains when it gets over full from rain or snow. So yes, when it is running, it is effectively a river on our property. :)

Thanks! I am highly motivated to get it looking good before things get green and I'm thinking I'm going to cut it close. These shots were strategically taken to avoid the surrounding mess currently around there but I am working on it all. There is actually an upper falls directly out of our lake also (kind of like Yellowstone's upper and lower falls, where the lower is much better) but I am still getting it sorted out. Once I get everything fixed up this year it will be much easier to do it each year, since it has been a good 15 years since it has seen any real attention, so I am fighting 15 years worth of brush and leaves at the moment.

Your hard work has been well rewarded! Real nice series - like #3 & #7 the best, but they are all well done.
