This photo marks the first time I've ever pre-visualized all elements of a photograph. The subject, wardrobe, pose, lighting, all dialed in mentally before the shutter was ever snapped. What's funny is, right at the moment of creation, I had started second guessing the concept. Wind out of my sail all right. But I decided not to give up on it, but to get extra creative. Boom, Dr. Franko is born.

Strobe: Two speedotrons to blow out background, one speedotron softboxed for main light above subject and slightly to camera left, and alien bee b800 for fill at camera center.

Also, meets requirements for Project 4: High Key!

cool!
just to share about high key stuff :
high key is where dark colors are not present ot very very subdued. This is no anywhere near it ;)

you used 4 strobes but try this

blow out the bg with one strobe and put a second softboxed strobe 45 degrees above the mode - 10 ft up. You will get the same exact light and will have one more strobe for the rim light and the forth for the second rim to get that super edgy look.

Hi, Korrektor, thanks for this tip! I should bear it in mind when I would like to try high key. However, I have a question. Since the bg is blown out, why do we need a rim light? Is there any picture to illustrate this?

No, then I'd have more shadow on the shadow side. That's why I like using a fill.

Blacks are highly present in both of those images. If my shot is not high key but these two examples are, I would love to hear an explanation.

Wasnt an example Of hi key, but rather a direct answer to your question about rim and white bg. As for the lights - make sure theres a reason for the fill. It has to me lower than key.
