I bought one for 700$, and I think it was made in 1996 according to the date code. Its in perfect shape with no marks, I like mine alot.

You said yours was a UT date code right? From my calculations that's 2005 not 1996. $700 for a 4-5 year old lens is about right (or a good deal! 
). $800 for a 15 year old lens, IMO, not a good deal. Even it was lightly used for 15 years, that's like heavy use for 7... Again JMO and I am fairly new to photography so this is not based on any sort of experience. I am just basing the value on what it would take for ME to buy lens whatever age it is regardless of how good it looks over a brand new one.
