Hi all,

While not strictly Astronomy or Celestial, these are some of my very first shots taken my moonlight. Next time, I will try for slightly less moonlight to show up the stars some more :).

Comments welcomed:

This was the second shot, the first was totally out of focus, pretty happy with this one though:

Looking north, this is the view of the full moon and Hamelin Bay:

Hamelin Bay by full moon light:

I tilted the camera up to the maximum to get the most amount of sky, this resulted in severe distortion of the visible ground items, but it has a good effect, I think:

I'm pretty happy with the results, trying to confirm focus was the hardest part!

They were shot with a Canon 5D MK II and either a 24-70L or a 16-35L at 30sec and ISO 400.

WOW , I forgot how bright the moon can light up shore areas and that white sand probably helped alot with lighting . Did you shoot with these lenses wide open ? and what was the exposure time ? I really like the whole series .

Looks like broad daylight. Well done.

Thanks, yes - they were both mostly used at f/2.8, but some of them are at 5.6 or 6.3 - EXIF data is embedded in the JPG's if you want.

PS: It did help that it was a full moon and the white sand did probably aid in the effect.

Wow, really nice images SimonBl !
I actually took a couple the other night from my backyard not having tried it before, and whilst I was generally pleased with the results, it is nothing like these ones. I didn't post them as I wasn't sure where they should go on POTN.

I love shots like these, and what an awesome location. How long were your exposures?

Those shots are absolutely awesome, can you give some more details?

Edit: never mind I see you gave more details that I missed.

Thanks for sharing.
