As the title says really.....I'm looking for an 82mm solid ND filter.

I've been googling and can find everything up to 77mm but nothing bigger. I've emailed B+W to see if they do one but not heard back from them yet.

Anyone know if an 82mm is available? If not what can I do? Should I go for something like the Cokin filter holder?

Thanks :)

How dense did you want to go? if it is 3 stops or less there is choice as referenced by the posts above. However, no one makes a screw-on 82mm > 3 stops without it being special order.

Singh Ray makes a variable ND that is 82mm, but that is because it is so thick ,14mm, that he expects that you will use it with step downs to get to your lens thread. If your lens comes with an 82mm thread its because it is a WA lens and you need to keep it wide. A 14mm deep filter will strongly vignette on a WA lens, like stacking 3x5mm filters.
Yes I have struggled with this issue as I have 2 lenses with 82mm thread, Zeiss Distagon 21 f2.8 ZE and 24 TSE II.

Even in the gel filters, ND>3 is not very common, but they do exist. Hitech sells a 4 stop gel filter, use 2 of them. Lee is working on a 10 stop gel filter, out later this year? For gel filters you want a Lee filter holder with the 82mm wide angle adapter. The Lee holder fits 4x4" (or 4" x 6") filters. I have modified the Cokin Z holder to be similar:

Gosh, thank you everyone.....really helpful. I had no idea it would be so tricky.....not a problem if I want 77mm but 82mm is proving to be really hard especially in the UK. I think I'm going to have to ship from the US for an 82mm!

I was looking to go about 6 stops......no less and more if possible. I found the Lee holder and WA adapter and there is even a 10 stop ND but I don't think it has been released yet. I got excited and put it in my online basket and then realised it was preorder! I might phone Lee and see when it will be available.

So I think it's either wait for that or use 2 x Hoya (3stops) together. Is that possible or will 2 filters together be to thick for WA?

Sorry for all the questions, you can probably tell I'm a bit new to ND filters!

Thanks :)
