And when I got my 50D it took worse pictures than my XTi and when I got my XTi it took worse pictures than my point-and-shoot.

But at least now I've learned that it's ME! I don't fully understand the new auto-focus system, it meters differently, my lenses act differently...

Give me about two months and it will miraculously start taking better pictures than my previous camera, just like my last two cameras did.

HAHAHA same here...

...until I discovered single focus point :)

when I got my first DSLR (350D), for 2 years I was shooting mainly blurs because the AF is different than P&S, but then someone told me about single focus point, and my world changed :)

Trust me, it gets worse as you get older. Perfectly simple things get forgotten, like leaving last nights high ISO setting or exposure compensation dialled in and shooting all day without noticing!

Try switching marques, now that is a complete nightmare. I really struggled to get my head around a modern Canon after switching from an ancient (manual everything) Nikon.

my the way... I didn't find the 7d's learning curve THAT great. Couple of days to get accustomed to dial controls and top LCD (...from an XS) and a couple of hours reading and understanding AF and tweaking options.

OMG that totally ticks you off. who hasnt done that:o. aahhhhhh..that is so dumb to do and ive done it as well. now i shoot with my histogram showing and my camera is set so that the highlight alert is flashing in my viewfinder when i screw up. its easy to do when you get in a hurry, but the highlight flashing alert in the viewfinder solved the issue for me. its saved my butt several times especially with weddings and white bridal dress'

Me too. It took me a few days to get use to it, but I got the hang of it quickly. I've always used the single point and I often forget to change between one shot or AI Servo and that causes me to screw up a few shots when I try to focus and recompose. I also keep forgetting how to change focus zones and have to always pull the book out. But I blame that more on me using my 5D as the go to camera unless it is the kids sports activities. Practice, practice, practice....And film is cheap too!

Sorry to thread jack, but when you guys say single point, do you mean focus? Like manually choose the center dot only?

The only thing I don't fully understand about the 7D, and this goes for any DSLR since the 7D is my first, is when to change the metering mode and when to leave it alone.

I'm still trying to learn when to use the different metering modes, how to use an external flash, how to shoot video properly (although that one is hard because both my laptops can't handle 1080p :S), etc...

Basically I have to shoot a lot more haha.
