Hello everyone,

I'm new here at POTN and just recently bought a 50D and 400 f5.6 as my wildlife gear. This is actually my first Canon dslr. Any comments are welcome since there are so much thing to learn to tame this beast (50D). Thanks

I like them, bu they appear grainy. What causes that? (I'm learning too)

Yes, I see the noise too. I suspect that it comes from sharpening the entire image instead of doing it selectively, which you should as you really don't want the background sharpened. Having said that: a great first post, wonderful shots. Welcome to the forum :)

Welcome, these are excellent shots, not much noise that I can see. But you can always use neat image and smooth the BG on these. These are beautiful shots, you're a natural. I look forward to more. Well done!

Thanks for the nice welcome. The 50D is new to me and ducks are great target shooting practice to develop the skills before trying it on difficult BIFs.

Thanks, I've been shooting using pentax k10d for 2 yrs but switched to canon to pursue my wildlife interest. I'm about to buy a 70-200mm f4 L soon so that makes our entire set-up almost the same:)
