oh yeah I love it haha... its just a pity... I recently realized that around 1 in 20 or maybe 50 who buys a dslr really try to learn anything about it. most just use the green box and complain haha :lol:

A sad thing is that until I read a post on here saying that the 7D didn't have the six scene modes, I hadn't realized that they were missing compared to my 40D.

To be honest I probably wouldn't notice if they took off everything except manual :p

If I was able to conquer the 1D MK3, I should be able to make the 7D whistle Dixie also. BTW, I just bought one from Newegg with the promo discount, so I should have it sometime next week. :-)

a lot focusing problems from the 7d are from people who shoot in one shot single point focus. It should not behave differently than the previous cameras in this mode. If it's AI-servo, then yes there is a learning curve, but not one shot single point focus which is pretty basic.

I honestly couldn't tell you what the green box even is! I also can't remember the last time a camera of mine was in anything but M. Once you go M you never go back!? I used to shoot everything in AV but once I started actually shooting in M I just greatly preferred that and have never looked back.

I've tried AV mode before but it always gives me a bad feeling when I use it. Like I don't have control of the camera, when it's in manual I feel much more relaxed and I can make the camera do what I want. I guess it's similar to the feeling of going from consistently using a manual transmission to an automatic and then looking for the clutch.

Most of the time it is not the camera but the user. You can easily spot the user errors when the title of their post is something like "I am returning my 7D... it is worthless; my point-and-shoot gives me better results."
If it is someone with some experience the thread would be something like "Has someone noticed this on the 7D... lots of pics attached.
Then the gurus will talk some weird dialect that I cant quite understand

hehe... I still use AV when I only want candid shots or when hanging out, then I also use TV when I am mobile and just want snapshots. other than that M all the way :)

I don't really think it's any different than any other camera. It's been like that since I joined. Every new camera brings on a few folks that have issues. Some are real and some are user error. It was like that with the 50, the 40, and even the 30.

Bingo! There are all kinds of personalities in this world and a number of them refuse to believe they need to practice and learn. I'd say 60+ % of such threads are user learniing curve or just plain more camera than they are willing to invest the time into to learn.

The 7D is a great camera. . .once you learn how to use it.

For me I chose the 5D2 because the learning curve was not as steep and I can get great results as I learn. As someone already said, the 7D is an unforgiving camera. It mandates that an operator know what he is are doing and prior knowledge of the myriad of settings the 7D has to offer.

Hi, very good point, good observation.

That was at ISO 160, which itself is not the problem. The problem was that it was underexposed, and I pulled it up a bit in PP (no-no!). This was another good example that underexposure causes noise, no matter what ISO setting (generally speaking).

I tried to reshoot the scene, I was farther back this time so detail in the shot is not directly comparable with my earlier picture.

That wall was supposed to be white in the background :)

Anyway, here is the re-shot, ISO 100, correct exposure this time, ergo much less noise :)

ISO 100, M Mode, 1/8, f5.6

remember something. People complaining about the issues they are having are microscopic compared to the number purchasing with no issues. That is just the way of things. Most will not post how happy they are or how well they work. But when our equipment isn't functioning properly we want help with it or we want other people to know about it.

there are problems with everything sold in mass. We just hope we don't get one of "those" units.

never had any issues here. from the moment i opened the box to the point that I took the first pictures this was one serious camera.

I think the majority of these incidents are attributed to the "aye-dee-ten-tee" error. seriously, if the flaws on the camera were -that- bad, a lot of experienced shooters who got their hands on it would have experienced the same thing.
