The Sacramento Wildlife Refuge. I was there in December, but saw many species that should still be there in April (such as Ringneck Pheasants and jackrabbits). There were a lot of Specklebelly Geese and Pintails there in December - perhaps some will remain long enough to still be there for your visit. I suggest calling the refuge and asking for their wildlife biologist. If you can get a message thru to him, ask if he'll call you back so that you can talk to him about April's opportunities. I've spoken to many refuge wildlife biologists and they have all been very helpful and willing to spend considerable time on the phone answering questions and describing in detail what you can expect to see.

Tom, thanks for the information. I'm going down for a family wedding and thought I'd see if there was a reason to haul everything along.

Keith,

I hope you have a chance to get to the refuge. I just remembered that there was also a Peregrine Falcon flying around the refuge when I was there. Had great views of it but never got close enough for good images.

Well that's a good reason to get out of God's country and come to the coast. We have Peregrine Falcon and Bald Eagles all over the place.
(well, Gig Harbor has a few, at least.)
(ok, a pair)
(but they will sit pretty for a trout!)
