I can see NO IQ difference between my 24-105, 70-200 and the 17-85mm when I had it,

Are you talking just general IQ? Because my 24-105 is night and day better quality than my 17-85 was....

I think he means he saw no difference for each lens, with or without a filter.

Best travel lens that, extremely sharp.

Read 'Understanding Exposure' and use AV mode and adjust that accordingly.

So if the image has mainly green underexpose by 1ev ,
Mainly white overexpose by 1ev
Mainly black underexpose by 1ev

Sun over the water? take the meter reading from the light reflecting from the sea.
Sunny day? Take the reading from the sky to the left of the sun.

All covered in the book and worth a read.

Also, the 24-105 "requires" a filter per manual to complete weather sealing... FYI.

I just had a look at the 24-105 manual, and I can't see where it says you need a filter for weather sealing. Are you sure?

Mine is still in the mail system somewhere, but I do remember reading something about this on a lens review website before i bought it.

I am fairly sure, there has been lists here (about which needs a filter to complete seal) along with some online reviews.

"Weather sealing seals the deal if you are going afield - note that Canon recommends a UV filter for complete weather sealing on this lens. "

Yes, with some Canon L lenses, they do say that in the manual. But the 24-105 manual does not say that. It is also not mentioned in my weather sealed 70-200 2.8 IS manual.

Here are some pages from the 24-105 manual: http://gdlp01.c-wss.com …EF24-105F4L_IS_USM_EN.pdf (external link)

Nowhere does it say you need to add a filter for weather sealing.
