First, I am headed to an airshow next month to see the thunderbirds. I have a 70-200, I am wondering if it worth looking at getting a 1.4x extender for it, if it would change the images much..(still probably crop it anyways..lol)

Second, I am possibly headed to Haiti for some relief work. I have never been out of this country, and im thinking bringing my camera case is a bit much..rather just bring one camera/lens. I am thinking i should look into a more general range lens to buy in place of my 17-40, which i often dont use because im in love with the 70-200's sharpness. I am looking at the 24-105..which has more range, but i also loved IS on my kit and first zoom lens.

For airshows, most folks would choose 400mm or longer. You could rent a long lens for that.

For Haiti, especially if you're going to be doing more than touring, get yourself a little point-n-shoot that you can put into your pocket. You won't want to be worrying about whether or not your camera case will be where you put it before going to work, and you certainly won't want to be hauling it around while you're working.

+1 on Haiti. If you are going as a photographer (that is your job), then part of your job is keeping track of your gear. But if you are doing some other work, something valuable will likely get stolen, since anything of value can and will be traded for something the thief needs . . .
