Hey folks, I am shooting a short, low key wedding ceremony on a beach in Barbados next month. Anything I should know about beforehand? Do I need any kind of permits or that sort of thing? Anyone ever shoot there before?

Thanks for any help / advice!

If you want to get a permit, I'm sure you can. I, however, have never gotten permits for any of my international weddings.

For intl weddings, I'll usually google the wedding location's name plus "wedding photos" just to get a SMALL idea of what the place is like. Most dest wedding locations are pounded with terrible photography, so you won't see much inspiring -- just some sort of an idea.

Check the venue's site to see if they have decent photography, or if it's really bad (for the weddings, that is). If it's terrible, keep that in mind to grab shots for them. That'll help you get weddings there again, if you want them.

Good luck and can't wait to see the photos, Tim!

Thanks for the tips, Bobby! I guess I won't worry about the permit, supposedly they're pretty lax about the beaches there, so even if we get booted from one place, we can probably find another. ;)

Emphasis added to beach, because that can determine so much in shooting. Time of day and any shade are key in having a rough idea of how to shoot the ceremony. I shot a beach wedding facing west into an early evening sun. How I would approach that shoot would be completely different if the wedding was at noon under shade. It all depends.

Good luck and post some pics!
