uh oh

I was setting up for a shoot, and when I released my 7D from the tripod, I don't know what happened, but I didn't have a good grip on it, and off it went onto the kitchen tiled floor!

It had a Tamron 28-75mm attached - no visible damage, but the autofocus system of the 7D is defintely not working (confirmed with different lenses).

I ordered it from Amazon, but will be running out to the local camera store tomorrow (Canon dealer) to see what can be done under the Canon warrantee.

*sigh*

Whats Canons warranty got to do with it? You dropped it.

You may be lucky and be able to *scam* them -if- you don't mention the fact that YOU dropped your camera.

Sorry that happened. But I've discovered one use for my camera strap--wrapping it to my tripod in case the camera would work loose. In the event of a mishap, dangling from the tripod might cause less damage than a direct floor hit!

Again, sorry that happened. Had to feel horrible when you hear the THUD.

I talked to my insurance agent last week about a policy to cover my gear and this afteroon I got toegther the list of all the serial numbers.

Sounds like something that pcj should have done, too.

All my gear is insured for loss or damage inside or outside my home.

I wasn't planning on scamming anyone, thanks for the insinuation.

If the warranty doesn't cover anything, I'll pay for a repair - I'm not in the habit of dropping camera's, so I'm not in the habit of testing or using warranty's either.

Fortunately, I had my backup body to hand, so the shoot wasn't cancelled. I just hope it can be repaired and returned in time for a big shoot I have at the end of the month!

oh come on now be honest. Nobody could actually truly believe that a manufacturer's warranty could cover YOU dropping the camera.

???

For all I know, it's a two second fix by someone with more of a clue than me about the problem.

Thats not likely, but I'm not a Canon repair center and have never dropped my camera before.

Well it's up to you. You said there isn't a mark on the camera. You can fess up and get a massive repair bill or do what 99.9% of the rest of the world would and say that the autofocus started mucking up.....convenietly leaving out that you dropped it.
