A first shot at bird photography is always good because that's when the addiction starts.

You're off to a good start. You have a nice pose for the bird. The light looks a little bit harsh (probably not early morning or late afternoon when light is most soft). I wish for a little more room on the bottom of the picture to fit in his feet. You have a nice head angle here. Looking forward to your next post.

Thanks for the info, I am gonna try and get more space under the subject next time. I was not ready to get wet to take the shot and was kind of running back and forth with the surf!!

Its the first time in a while I have tried something so challenging yet calming.

I hope I can get more soon, I am usually shooting surfers and swimmers, birds are so... stationary sometimes... birds in flight are a fun challenge however!
