I want to have a contest on my business FaceBook page, to give away a free photo session (with a limit, of course, on the length/value), either a free graduating senior, newborn, bridal, engagement or family shoot. Please let me hear your ideas! I was trying to think of something that would direct more people to my FB page, like, whoever gets the most fans to join within the next month wins--but I can't think of a way to keep up with or determine who is referring whom as a fan...

i remember seeing karl johnston(member here) had a contest on his facebook page...i think it was just based on the number of people you invite...he explained how to take a screen shot of the computer when you were inviting friends...you could just copy that(hope he doesn't mind me saying that)

here's his facebook: http://www.facebook.com …d=653383983.3703839737..1 (external link)

I checked out the contest on Karl's FB page (of which I am a proud fan! :D). That's a cool idea, I'm going to keep it on hold till I see what else comes up. Thanks!

I have a niece who is a "fan" of about 250 pages, most of which area "I hate it when someone says "blank"". And most high school students have 300+ if not 600+ friends. So their "home" page on facebook is probably a blur so seeing info about your fan page will be rather difficult.

But remember your target is their parents/guardians/people with the money :D

Here's a cool post about what someone does relevant to photographing seniors & portraits:

I just started one for Mother's Day....looking for the best mom stories. "Why is your mom your hero?" "What makes your mom so special?" etc.

I'll pick the best one and then the winner gets a free family session.

We'll see how it goes...

How about one where whoever posts the best idea as to how they should be photographed and how that pertains to who they are. It could all be in one "thread" so everyone could see all the interesting answers.

I will be doing a new contest shortly.

I also do freelance writing for the news/mags from time to time and was wanting to tie in more of my creative writing into what I do.

A rough draft is as follows, though I am planning on marketing a new type of printed work and offering a sample as a prize:

I was planning on having people choose one of their favorite photographs by me and writing up a short story (less than 500-1000 words) around it. Fictional, can be about anything relating to the shot, what it makes you think of, what it would be like if you were there viewing it or happening upon it, something abstract, etc.

I was thinking of having people write it in the notes section on facebook then tagging up to 5 of your friends just to spread the word about what it was for/where to go to contribute their own short stories/view my work/etc. Send a draft to me by e-mail or link me to the notes section so I can view it on their profile.

I was planning on having a panel of 3-4 other pro photogs/journalists I network with to judge the story writing contest along with myself. Criteria for winning to be decided on at a later date.

Thanks Karl and Michelle! Sidebar: The idea comes from a series I want to do wherein subjects/students will write out at least 3 thing that they feel "define" them, and then have that person take a portrait of someone else using their own list. This will, hopefully, give people a real insight into who they are, how they are perceived, what visual cues lead to said perceptions, and how to become more fluent in the visual language of photography and the visual arts in general.
