We walked out of the local department store, and saw it in the distance. I ran to the car, grabbed the 40D with the 28-135mm IS and shot about 12 images. I liked this one best, although the sky was overcast.

...the sky was overcast.

Better than walking out of the mall five minutes later and seeing the tail vanish behind the tree line...

I like what you're showing here!

It's actually the 225 in the movie (well it's called the AN-500 for some reason), it's got 6 engines.

Tracks planes that have filed flight plans and you can view the activity for a specific airport for a couple days in advance.
I look here to see if anything interesting is flying...http://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/ (external link) ...or you can search A124 or A225 for the Antonovs.

nice catch there! Even more awesome considering you only had 135mm on the long end!! Sky color, clouds and the position of the aircraft - all awesome.

I was just outside the airport in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti a month ago when one of these took off - sounded like there was a monkey with an organ grinder inside one of the engines! haha... But obviously that didn't keep it from gettin' airborne.

I got up right next to one of these guys at the Kilimanjaro airport in Tanzania a couple years back - sweet beasts... Ironically in all the time I have spent in Ukraine and I have only seen them sitting on the side ramps at the Kiev airport - never seen one flying here.

I get to see it all the time!! The company I work for uses it to ship ALL of our satellites to launch base. Yup it's big. It is also damn uncomfortable to fly in. Most of the time it takes 4 or 5 days to move our birds from Palo Alto to Baikonaur or French Guiana. Good shots to the OP
