So, it's my fault that my 3 week old 430EX has broken - I did leave it on a tripod which blew over. Twice. But now it's broken and i'm annoyed.

Basically what's happened is, although it turns on and everything displays correctly and makes the sound as if it's re-charging, the pilot light won't turn red and it won't fire (when attached to a receiver, or when pushing the pilot button). It then keeps re-charging itself even though it's not dispelling any of the energy built up, so the batteries are heating up really quickly and the unit is turning off by itself, i'm guessing due to over-heating.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on or what's happened to the unit? Or more importantly, how this can be fixed? I'm not actually sure what's going on, as the unit itself displays everything and looks fine...it just won't fire. :(

Any help, input, thoughts or comments would be much appreciated.

Tristan.

Well, what you do in a case like that is... Send it in to the service center. They probably won't fix it under warranty, but they can probably fix it. Then it's just an expensive lesson in making sure you tripod is secure in the wind.

Bulb broken or shorted from my experience.

Did it stop working straight after a fall? if it didn't and the outside doesn't look shredded then it could be fixed under warranty. Either way, send it in for repair. A simple job like this can usually be done by a licensed repair centre - should be easier and cheaper than sending it to Canon themselves.
