hahaha. when would you guys rent instead of buying the lens? i always have the trouble of spending the money to rent when i could put that money towads the purchase =[

Same here, I thought I could rent, but all the ones I want to rent are too much, so I guess I would rent if the prices were really low...and they don't seem to be after insurance and shipping...

it cost $25 a day for the 70-200 2.8L IS here in New York City from Adorama.
in fact, adding the 50 1.2L and a 16-35L brings the tab to $90
pretty reasonable to try out all 3 for a whole day.

im shooting the 70 200 2.8L IS on a Canon 7d. Yes, its heavy, yes, you will def look like a pro with this lens LOL! The learning curve between both lens and camera is pretty steep, but I have managed to grab some awesome shots. Just got the kit about a week ago, and its still hit and miss but I blame my settings. Make sure you understand what the switches on the lens do. Today I shot a local high school baseball game and managed to catch the pitch mid air. ITS ALL ABOUT THE CAMERA SETTINGS! Good luck!

Well that is with a local pick up? We don't have Adorama here locally, so I would have to ship from where ever, are you shipping or is it a local pick up?

I buy new if I can... I will glady pay a minor premium for brand new, with warranty.

For example... My 24-105 was brand new, cost me $904 after bing rebates. Some I see sell for $850-900 used. Guess which way I am going? My 24-105 had issues which I sent to Canon and they repaired for free. If it was used, I would of had to pay $100+ I am sure.

Peace of mind, really. Usually new prices are not much more than used.

it's local
you can have it send to you but they require a week rental
the cost for a whole week makes sense if you're considering a whole bunch of stuff.

I rent lenses that I can't afford to buy or that I would use so rarely that I can't justify purchasing them.

My exact sentiments here.

I was given the opportunity to shoot the New York Honduras Soccor league Tryouts this weekend, and these shots are better than the baseball ones I took last week. The more you experiment, the more you will understand your setup. I was convinced that I purchased a bad copy of this lens. Now, It barely parts with my 7D! LOL!
Mind you, I am still learning and in NO WAY claiming to have mastered my kit. Learning the proper adjustments on CS is another story altogether.

Those shots are all over the map as far as settings are concerned.
f11, 1/2500, ISO3200?
Then f4, 1/1000, ISO125?

Try shooting them in M mode, especially if the lighting wasn't changing all that much. This way you have consistent exposures and consistent settings. You pretty much set if and forget it. In TV mode, a player's jersey can wreak havoc to your exposures where in fact the lighting really didn't change.

All over the place, they are! I am still in the experimental stage of learning what settings works best in what lighting condtions. Manual mode is what I aim to use 100 pct of the time, but at the time I was concentrating on learning the lens.Share your settings and photos if you guys have any! I am a big sponge and am learning from anywhere I can....
