Was working before, not its not.
I have a 7D and the flash settings are:
Pop up Flash up.
Flash firing: Enabled
Built-in flash func : E-TTL ll
Shutter sync : 1st curtain
E-ttl ll : Evaluate
Wireless func : Set for Master
Channel 1

580 EX ll Settings
ETTL
CH 1
Master
M Zoom 24mm

Works fine as a Slave, but not Master.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know how you got the 580EX II in master mode to work without a flash trigger but the 7D's wireless flash only communicate with a speedlite set to slave.

If the 7D is set to master then the 580EX II HAS to be set to slave.

You can't have two masters. As soon as I typed that, a quote came to mind but I had to look it up:

No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Translation:

If the 580EX II and the 7D are both set to Master, then you will hate the 7D because everyone else on these forums loves to hate the 7D and therefore it must be true. (user error) ;)

Thanks guys.
Nobody likes 2 Masters, lol.
Let me rephrase.
I want the 580 to be the Master and the 7D to trigger the 580.
Now, what are my settings?
Thanks

Why do you want the 580EX II to be Master? Master to what slave?

.

There can be only one master. If the 7D is going to trigger the 580EX, then the 7D is the master and the 580EX is the slave. It can't also be a master at the same time. It's one of the other. Not both.

If you want the 580EX as a master you will need to trigger the X-sync pin on the flash. You can do this with radio or cable and may be able to trigger it with an optical slave with the 7D setting off the optical slave. But the 7D will need to operate as a dumb flash with no pre-flash. So manual and low power operation.

I don't know why you want the 580EX as the master but there must be a better way to get the lighting situation that you want.
