Problems with 7D and battery life

Has anyone had any issues with there 7D and battery performance, when I leave my battery in the camera for a week I come back and the camera tells me it has no charge left in it. I put it in the charger and it tells me the battery is half charge or whatever I left it with, charges quickly puts it in the camera and it shows it is fully charged. When it does it I have taken the battery out and put it back in and still shows no charge. With the 40D I could leave a battery in it for ages and it never noticable ran down

Initially I thought it was the battery so I took it back to the shop and got a replacement, same problem and with the canon spare I got. The problem has to be with the camera which came with the latest firmware update. I am going to phone the shop I got it from tomorrow but I thought I would pick your brains.

Doesn't sound normal. It's probably your camera.

Probably the camera but have you tried reinstalling the firmware to make sure?

I haven't, do you think it will make a difference? or is it a case of it is worth a try

Are you storing your camera in a cold environment?

no normal room temperature. I will try reinstalling the firmware as I have one battery which is about half charged which the camera does nothing when I switch it on and a fully charged battery which it is acknowledging as fully charged.....fingers crossed

It's a "it won't hurt" case. I know generally during troubleshooting, they'll ask you to reset the firmware if possible.

Just re installed the firmware and it is now recognising the battery showing it to be at 43% instead of absolutely nothing so fingers crossed that may have done the trick but I will monitor over a week or so to make sure. I will keep you updated

Sadly the following day when I turned the camera on the battery indicator was blinking, turned it off then on and absolutely dead. Have phone the store and persuaded them to exchange it for a new one. Lady I spoke to said it was not the first one she had come across but could not confirm if it was another 7D as looking at another thread on here the 1D MK IV has a similar issues but fortunately only very few seem to be affected. Shame as I am really happy with the 7D although I have only used it for still photography.
