Hello, I am looking to purchase the 70-200 F4 L series lens. I do mostly landscape photography and most of the time at the beach. No low light shots, but sometimes overcast. I am shooting with the 18-55 non IS right now. The lens has some issues that I was told it would have to be taken totally apart to be fixed. Instead of spending the money for this I was wanting to just purchase another lens. A lot of my images I end up modifying using photoshop and topaz labs. Because these images are being modified, would purchasing an "L" series lens be counter productive. From my research I am aware that the "L" series glass provides more crisp, clear and outstanding color saturation, however if I am manipulating the image would those attributes be wasted? Thank you for your help!

I dont thing so. The L glass regardless of what you do with your photots will give you a nicer picture to work with. So you end result will be better after your PP in my opinion. Not only are the photos that the L lens produce nicer but the build quality is also 10X better. Its a lens that if you take care of, will last you for ever.

Before gettting my first L i too was sceptical. After taking the first shot you will see what the big deal is. The pictures look gorgeous. I say get the lens. You definately wont be disappointed.

Thank you for the quick reply! Do you think that for what I shoot, the F4 will suffice? Like I mentioned no really low light conditions, closest to low light would be overcast.

For landscapes at the beach I use my 17-40 and I often find that not wide enough. I would like the 10-22 but just can't give up the 17-40!

Like how late in the afternoon. On the west coast, because of the location and where the sun sets the brightness of the day really doesn't change that much until late in the afternoon. Worries of the sun going over the mountain or behind large objects is eliminated due to shooting location. I was at the beach the yesterday shooting and noticed that the brightness was almost non changing up until 4pm or so.

You won't find one that will give you the IQ results that this lens does for the price. I used mine indoors at my sons College graduation with the 50D and got some very nice results up to iso 3200. The lens is very sharp wide open at f/4.
