I just picked up a Canon G11 from Best Buy and one thing I found real nifty is the live histogram. I know we all love to chimp but, I think this would be a cool feature in all DSLRs and save us a step from actually chimping after the shot. Would this make your shooting alot easier or would it be better just to look at the histogram after the shot. I would like to know what everyone feels about it. Let's discuss! Thanks! :)

How's that? When I use Live View, you can only see it get brighter or darker. It's not a real determination whether or not the image will be exposed correctly. :) It's only after the shot.

Yup, box #4 on this DPReview page of the 7D, but I believe all bodies with Live View have had this.

If you don't know how to do this, I will save you the time of reading it in the manual, hit the info button to cycle through the different displays while in live view.

Press DISP (INFO?) when in LV to cycle through options.

Hmm... I have to go look at the manual on the 1Ds III. I never knew this even existed other than those grids and manually focusing. Thanks! :)

It is always a good day when you learn yet something else about your equipment! Makes it fun all over again...

You do have to have Exposure Simulation on, I believe.

Heh! It actually comes in quite handy -- think of shooting with fill flash but wanting to get a good exposure for ambient without the shoot-chim shoot-chimp. Make your ambient adjustments using Live View then you can just concern yourself with the right flash exposure.

Thanks Tony. I may have to try that some time. :)
