I love his expression in the last photo - what a CUTE kid!! My preference would be to not have that one cropped at his knees though, but that's just me.

Hi Gilbert,

First off welcome to the forum !!

If im brutaly honest, although I don't disagree that your boy and nephew are really cute kids, (apart form no.1) I think this thread is a classic example of why people shouldn't necessarily share family pics because IMO these shots are nothing more than quick family snaps.

From a photographic stand point it doesn't seem that you took great care when composing these shots as there are distracting elements in the backgrounds of some of these shots, some of the shots demonstrate motion blur caused by an excited and moving child and a shutter speed too slow to accommodate for that and the lighting is very harsh causing some harsh daylight shadows on the boys face.

But as I said, very cute children!

There is LOADS of useful information to be found in this forum so I would suggest that you have a read and I'm sure you will see a dramatic and rapid improvement in your photography in no time at all !!

Keep shooting and enjoy

I'm glad as I always feel guilty after giving harsh, direct criticism, especially as I am far from pro myself. Perhaps I should post some more of my work up on here so that people can get their revenge ;)

one further tip when shooting kids (and dogs coincidentally) is to get down low and shoot from their eye level. Although it seems that you have already done this is some of your shots ;)

Good luck !!

I think you could save a couple of these. The rest are just snapshots with no faces.
By applying some basic post processing like auto levels, contrast and sharpening, they will look better.
Shoot tight and crop tighter.
Good luck and keep shooting.

Here are a couple of quick edits. I hope you don't mind. If so, let me know and I will remove them.
Mike

They look good thanks!

I tend to shoot at eye level but I was having a hard time chasing him and making sure he wouldn't fall in the lake.

I agree with Mike, like Rick Sammon always says "the name of the game is to fill the frame" ... I hate these cheesy catch phrases ;) but its true and you see the evidence in the cropped versions above.
