Hi

I'm heading over to Atlanta with work for a few days at the end of April. Due to the stupidly high prices of Domke Waxwear bags here in the UK, I thought I'd take the opportunity to seek out something whilst over in the States.

I'll be staying in Downtown Atlanta near the Peachtree Center and was wondering if the locals can recommend anywhere with decently-priced photography gear (grabbing a Domke my first priority, but will also happily blow money on anything elseI can find cheaper!). I won't have access to a car, but anything reachable by MARTA is fine :)

Thanks for any suggestions
Pete

FatPete -

You may want to cross post this request on the Atlanta POTN thread (here's a link: https://photography-on-the.net …ead.php?t=268521&page=136. ) That might hit your target market a little closer.

Unfortunately, I am in the burbs and off the MARTA line, so I am not much help. Showcase Camera at 2323 Cheshire Bridge Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 is probably the biggest retail shop. Another that has been highly recommended is PhotoBarn in Lilburn (http://www.photobarn.com/Directions.asp (external link)) Not sure about how close MARTA runs to either one.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

They don't have a storefront, but KEH (www.keh.com (external link)) is a well known retailer. I would call a sales representative to see what they can work out with you. (770) 333-4200. Look on their website to see what they have in stock.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Showcase looks fairly walkable from Lindbergh Center MARTA (PhotoBarn is looking less do-able).

Google Street View is perfect for things like this!

Good point about trying KEH - I was also considering getting in touch with B&H to see about delivery to the hotel. It's worth a try anyway.

Thanks!

I gave Showcase a chance with an online purchase. They had one of the older Canon Red neck straps (not redneck) listed on the website. Placed my order. Never spoke to anyone. One week later, (I'm only 3.5 hours drive from them) my box arrives. Wrong strap. I call and salesman apologizes and tells me to return it for a full refund, he thought I'd rather have "A" strap if I could not get what I wanted. I tell him to send me a UPS pick up tag. I did not order this strap, and I should not have to pay to have it returned.
Pick up tag never showed up. And I have been too busy to take the time to call during the day.

Lol, Lindbergh MARTA to showcase is walkable... but its a pretty decent walk in a part of town without decent sidewalks!

If you're headed over there, make sure to stop and have lunch at Fat Matt's Rib shack! Yummy

Photobarn, while a great place- is off the beaten path. You should be able to get a transfer from the train to the bus to get you to Showcase. There is a bus stop right in front of the mall its in on Cheshire Bridge.

I don't know if they carry the waxwear stuff, but give them a call. There is a decent supply of bags in the store, and maybe they can tell you what bus line gets you from the train to their store :) One other thing to keep in mind, if I remember correctly they keep business house like 9-6, so don't depend on them sticking around after your done with work.

Another excellent retailer (they rent too) is Professional Photographic Resources at 667-11th Street NW; Atlanta, GA 30318, Phone - (404) 885-1885. They cater more to pros.

Thanks for these additional suggestions. Luckily I've got a Friday afternoon & the following Wed free so should be able to get to some of these places. I'm becoming quite au fait with the Atlanta public transport system now ... how did we get by before Google maps? :-)

Well, after all these excellent suggestions, my trip to Atlanta has just been cancelled due to the volcano ash problem here in Europe :-(

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment, and sorry I wasn't able to take advantage of your help.

Pete
