Clicking into a malware infected website is like stepping into dog dooty. It stinks and you walk funny for a little while. :p

Here are a few tools that I use to combat these nasties:

http://free.avg.com (external link)
http://www.malwarebytes.org (external link)
http://www.superantimalware.com (external link)
http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ (external link)
http://free.antivirus.com/rootkit-buster/ (external link)

All of these tools are free to use and are very good at finding and removing malware.

If you have any other cool tools, please post 'em up! Thanks! :)

I always recommend Avast! for a free antivirus. I have found that it uses the lowest resources of the free programs out there, but it's been a while since I have looked into it. http://www.avast.com/index (external link)

+1 on malware bytes and HiJackThis. Between that and spybot, it fixes most of the viruses on the computers in our offices. I also use CCleaner and Cleanup452 to remove temp files which usually speeds up the computer.

Rather than cramming more software onto my hard drive for so many ambiguous possibilities,
I simply use the Opera web browser as a much smaller target to all those nasty script-kiddies.

Tiny download size, fast, fully customizable, popup and ad blocking, and much more,
Opera is what Firefox aspires to be, and without needing to install all sorts of additional
plugins and other garbage.

If you're using Firefox or IE, you're offering the two biggest targets of exploitation
in the world for the hackers and hijackers to take advantage of.
