Just received a used 70-200 2.8 IS in near perfect condition. However, since this is my first L lens, when I AF on something, the first thing I hear is a "knock" sound, then your typical AF sounds following. I'm not concerned with the regular AF sounds, but I was wondering if you guys have the same "knock" when I first press the AF button on your 70-200 2.8 IS. Do you guys have this experience?

Thanks,

Gome

Yes, it does not "knock" when I turn IS off. I guess the question now is, is this sound normal with IS on the 70-200 lens?

Thanks :)

That is normal.

That is the Image Stabilization. I does make a sort of "knock", "clunk", or "thud" when it is activated by 1/2 pressing the shutter button. If you remove your finger from the shutter button, after about 2 seconds you will here a slightly quieter sound as the system stops working.
