Hi, I'm somewhat new here. After picking up some tips from POTN, I finally have something I think is pretty good. These were taken last Friday. Portraits are an entirely new avenue for me, so let me know what I can do to make these better. Number 1 & 2 are straight OOC, no PP done other than resizing. None had any skin smoothing done. Since my PP isn't up to par yet, I tend not to do any. Except for #4 - I played with that one in RAW.

1. f/5, 1/125, ISO 100

#1 Good: Eyes are in focus, Improve: Background is to distracting, especially with the fence. If shot at a longer zoom length and/or say 2.8, would blur that background out more., needs slightly more contrast in PP; the shirt is too complex of a pattern for portraits.

#2: Good: Lighting on subject good. Improve: Again too much background. Larger subjects should stand more sideways.

#3 Good: Focus is good. Improve: More contrast, wrinkles in background not ideal, Im a fan of long sleeve shirts, the skin tones on the arm detract from the face; she needs more light on the face, less of a spot light in the back; white balance seems a tad blue.

#4 Toss this one completely.

KEEP SHOOTING!

For grins I edited the first one:

I like the second one the most. She looks so relaxed and confident in front of the camera. I did a quick edit to it. It was a little underexposed and the colors seemed flat. Here is my take on it. Hope you like and keep shooting.

I just got my first pair of glasses that I didn't think I needed. I apologize to anybody in the past year that I said their pictures were out of focus lol.

Lundgrenj - thanks. Unfortunately I don't have L glass yet, so the best I can do is f/3.5. But I do see what you are saying with the dof.

locky - She is pretty comfortable with the camera. We have another shoot planned. On my monitor (not calibrated) your edit looks a little too bright. But I do see what you are getting at. I shot in Raw, so I'll play with it some. Thanks.
