Other than a slightly larger LCD and faster FPS is are there differences making the SX1 worth the additional cost over the SX20? I'm looking to replace my wife's A620.

RAW in the SX1 vs Jpeg only. SX1 has 10 vs 12 MP on the same sensor. 1080 for the SX1 vs 720 line HD video. Many of the differences are attributable to the SX1 having a CMOS sensor rather than the CCD of the other PowerShots.

CMOS is the reason I got into Canon instead of Nikon years ago. Good enough reason for me to chose the SX1. Thanks.

You'll like it (or your wife will) - as soon as the SX1 came available, I ordered one to replace my SX10 (which was a good camera, just CCD and CMOS don't quite look the same and I wanted RAW).

I tried both prior to my buying the SX20.
The newer CCD sensor in the sx20 was nearly as good and only really noticably different at 3200 ISO or greater.
But the lenses on the SX20 are better and you can shoot in RAW on the SX20 if you really want to (or should be able to soon) I shoot RAW in my S5 all the time.

If speed, zoom and photo quality are your main concerns would it be worth stumping up the extra 70 squid (to the Americans that is English money = $100 ish) to get the SX1 over the SX20?

P.S. My bank manager curses you all, you pernicious influence! ;)
P.P.S I hope it is ok to tag this onto this thread as it is exactly the same question rather than start the same thread again.

Quid is colloquial anyway, squid is just another colloquialism, we use both. Quid comes from Quidhampton and is the original and squid comes from quid. :)

So did you end up buying the SX1 then? What are your thoughts?

No purchase yet. My wife considers both to be larger (size and weight) than she cares for.
