Do you use these?

If so, what are your settings and why?

Cheers!

Never use them as I always now shoot on manual and have learnt where everything it at the push of a couple of buttons. I can see them being useful but never felt the need.

Are you talking about picture style or registering camera settings to the "camera user setting" option on the mode dial?

I always have my picture style on neutral, however I can see how they would be useful if I shot jpeg or had to shoot photos and publish with no time to post process (breaking news?)

I think why the camera user setting on the mode dial is useful is obvious.

If I used jpegs and the picture styles I would use settings that suited the shot I wanted to take. If I was shooting a contrasty subject in harsh lighting, I would turn the contrast down, if it was a flatly lit, overcast day I would crank contrast up.

The same goes for the other factors, which is why Canon gives you various options that you can choose from according to subject and conditions, as well as allowing for you to define your own sets if desired.

However, I don't use the picture styles (apart from neutral to ensure that my histogram is as accurate as possible) as once they have been committed to the image in camera, you are stuck with it.

I always shoot in RAW and optimise the contrast, saturation etc when I can see what I am doing, rather than just guesstimate some settings to apply in camera.
