Only when they find the invoices or packaging. Otherwise "I have always had that lens, Just don't use it much."

Both our daughters are into photography.. Our eldest uses my old 350D and a Canon G11.. Our youngest is still into P&S photography, using a Canon IXUS 110IS..

When I need to buy new gear I just tell my wife I'm passing whatever down to daughter number one and replace it with the new stuff for myself.. Works a treat..

I'm thinking of getting a 7D and using my 50D as a backup.. I'll pass my 20D down to our eldest.. The 350D will go to our youngest daughter..

It's called keeping it in the family..

They don't understand but I brush it off. Whocares as long as the results speak for themselves? Of course, mine's for business, so good luck if it's just personal :)

My wife just rolls her eyes. She's used to it by now. It's just another Adorama box on the front porch as far as she's concerned, lol.

She actually helped me decide between a 1D3 and a 7D a while back.

Although, she is starting to see the benefits of good camera gear with the G11 I bought not long ago that's technically hers. She recently used it at a concert and her friends were amazed at how much better her photos were than the ones they shot with their "cute" P&S cameras and iPhones.

My daughter doesn't care what I buy, as long as I'm not pointing the camera in her direction.

I did the same thing. My gripped XT went to my cousin along with the 18-55, 50 1.8 mk2 (I have a MK1 for myself), and the tamron 18-200 or 18-270 (I forget).

Now that I have the 17-55, when I see her again, I'll pass the Tamron 17-50 to her and take back the 18-55.

If I decide to get another body, I'll take the XT back, give her the 40d and pass the XT and 18-55 to my sister and her husband.

Nope, but let talk of a motorcycle arise and I'm in the doghouse for weeks.

BTW,,I "loaned" my niece my Nikon film gear a couple of years ago,,three bodies and about a dozen Nikkor AI-S lenses.. She still shoots film, processes and prints her own B/W.. Not bad for a 23 year old..

I'm 26 married and have lived in my apartment for 3yrs now. I used to have stuff shipped to my parents house but my mom thinks $400 for a lens is alot of money, and that I should stop buying stuff and start making money with the hobby.

My wife is extremely supportive though. :) I told her I don't want to buy any more lenses right now (was thinking of that new Sigma 17-50 OS), that I want a 5D next. I showed her come comparison pictures (like 50 f1.8 on crop vs 80 f/1.8 on FF) to show her the difference in the DOF and better subject separation. She was impressed lol. I told her I would be able to MAKE money selling my 20D (cause i got a killer deal on it) and get a 5D for around $1000, she was supportive and asked if she could contribute towards my b-day present, but I said I will just save up some more until I find a good deal. :)

This works like a charm, and extends far beyond photo gear. Wishing for a new car, no problem, the wife jumps at the chance to pass something down to children or grandchildren.... This said, thankfully she doesn't have a clue as to how much the hand-me-down, or replacement, is worth.

Heh. A few years ago I was in a Starbuck's chatting with a few casual acquaintances, all riders. And young. I'm definitely not young.

One of them, always a smartass, said "You mean your wife lets you ride a motorcycle?"

Me: "I had the motorcycle first."

"Be seeing you."
