So what camera new or used do you think would give the best IQ for less that or about 2,000 bucks? (assume the object being photographed is stationary and well lit)

on a side note as-well what would be your opinion on best multitasker in the same price range, by that i mean in the studio shooting with strobes then at the race track the next day. etc etc.

Best IQ for under $2k, prolly the 5D ($1100)
Why I think so:
Full Frame
Low Pixel Density
Good High Iso Performance

Best multitasker, prolly the 7D ($1450)
Why I Think so:
Good IQ
Good autofocus
Good Video (part of all around in my mind is also it has video)
Wide Range of FF and Crop lenses
High MP good for Cropping (thats part of versatility right? thats what all around means to me)

I'd vote for the 7D. Very nice all around camera.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

You can get a 5D Mark II for ~$2000 if you really worked for it.

For a multitasker, you can get a used 1D Mark III for $2000 as well.

Best IQ??? You need a lens to go with it...... You would probably don't have $2000 to spend on a body, factoring in getting a L lens as well.

1d mkIIIs have been very appealing to me lately, so has the 7d but ever since holding a 1d2 that was on consignment at a local camera shop i have "lusted" after a 1 series. The 7d would be nice as i don't have to go through the hassle of turning my 17-55 into a 24-70. Ive also looked around for 1ds mkIIs

Assume nifty fifty, practically free right? =)

Maybe my math skills are failing me but $1,100 + $1,000 != "under 2k"

If it were a 1.6 crop id use my 17-55, if i cant use an EF-S lense I'm sure i could sell it add some cash and buy a 24-70.

Well if that's the case, you will just spend the 2k to the body only, you will have plenty of choices. You can choose between a used 5D2, 1Ds2 and a 1d3.

For IQ and all around performance in one package, just look for a 1D Mark 3. They go for <$2k sometimes. Great IQ, very good high ISO performance (especially with noiseware), tons of custom features, blazing fast fps, and great AF.

Umm.. except the auction is not over, with 2 DAYS left.

It is hard to find a 5D2 UNDER $2000.

yeah i saw a couple on KEH going for 1800 a few weeks ago. Thing is I'm still saving up right now, i don't plan to buy anything just yet I'm going on a trip in august and would like to pick something up in July as a birthday present to myself to use on said trip so maybe prices will come down a little more on everything
