I saw those the other day. Great videos, but that guy that's hosting it is annoying. :)

Just a tad. But they made me realise what essential item I'm missing as a photographer....weird facial hair!

I thought I already posted this but it's not here so I'll go for it one more time:

These videos show how six different photographers pack their kits. Some of them use the Airport Security bag. Topelmann uses two!

To change the combination, you need a pretty narrow pointed device like a ball-point pen. There is a small hole in the lock body into which the pen-point must be firmly pushed WHILE changing the combination number dials. After the new combination is set in the dials, RELEASE the pressure being applied to the pen in the hole.

If it isn't setting the new combination, your pen-point may be too large to actually insert into the hole, try to find a really narrow one such as on a single use BIC pen where the tip is not tapered. It took a couple of tries for me before I got the "technique" right to set them. The lock must be in the "unlocked" state before you can reset the numbers.

There are instructions on the TT web site for each bag under the "support" tab.

-howard

I followed the exact instructions but it didnt do anything, I'll try it with a smaller one and see.

Will the 70-200mm 2.8 II fit upright in the security?
I am looking at either the security or international bags for the following:

Gripped 5D Mark II
Gripped Rebel
Sigma 150-500
Sigma 50mm
Canon 24-105
Canon 70-200 2.8 is II
Canon 24-70
Canon 70-300 DO
580EX II
And some chargers/cables/batteries etc.

I tried the Lowepro flipside 500 and it would not fit as well as the weight would be too much for my shoulders. So rollerbag it is! I do travel domestic and international quite a bit, mostly on AA and I see their restrictions on carry on are mostly 45 inches, so either bag should be fine.

Security or International v2.0?

Thanks, I assume that the mark II won't fit upright in the international?

If the Mark I does, the Mark II certainly will. They are equal in length.

I think it was the Airport International that was in question, not the Security of the OP. No, the f/2.8 versions of the 70-200L are too tall to put upright in the International. The f/4 versions will just barely fit, but I don't carry them that way for fear of a good bump to the bag causing damage to the lens.

One thing I've been thinking about between the domestic and international (at least that's how I think of them) bags is something I saw on Good Morning America, I believe.

Seems that airlines, domestic airlines, are thinking about re-considering the 'legal' size for carry-ons - as in, making the restrictions smaller. I don't know this for fact; I don't know what the latest information, and I don't know if anything will come of it. But apparently people are getting injured from overstuffed bins.

I personally can't imagine them changing it because of all the people out there who have bags for the current standard. I can imagine a lot of complaints from bag makers (well, maybe not - it could also mean a lot of new purchases :)), or at least the people who own the bags.

Anyway, just thought I would throw that out there. But consider it a possible red herring. It did make me think twice about the domestic bag though.

Well, now that a lot of airlines are charging fees for the 1st checked bag, trying to force passengers to check at least 1 bag by limiting the size of carry-ons makes good financial sense.

I have seen first hand how passengers are so over-loading their carry-on bags, that they can't safely lift them into the overhead racks. Twice I have had to deflect an "out of control" heavy bag just before it would have hit my wife on the head as we sat in our seats waiting for everyone else to get settled. Some of the bags appear to weigh close to 50 pounds as a carry-on, and the people simply don't have the strength to hoist them into the overhead bins! Look out below!!!

Thanks for the info everyone! It's a tough call between the International and Security.

It was a tough call for me as well, but I finally decided that I wouldn't be traveling out of the country and more room is never a problem, while not enough frequently is. I haven't been sorry especially because my 70-200 2.8 IS wouldn't fit upright in the Int'l. ;)

Thanks for this review. I'm right on the threshold of ordering this bag myself, though I'm still tinkering with alternatives from Tamrac and Calumet. One of the open issues for me with the TT is tripod and umbrella holders. Lloyd (Picturecrazy) has a thorough review on version 1 of this bag and in addition to the tripod holder on the outside, there were two neat umbrella holders integreated into the inside flap.

In addition to the monopod/tripod holder, is there a dedicated way, either inside or outside the bag, to hold a couple of umbrellas? I'd hesitate to just stuff them into a large general purpose pocket.

Thanks for any insights!

Peace, sorry for just now seeing your post, but to my knowledge there is nothing dedicated to an umbrella holder. Or if there is, I'm not aware of it. The tripod holder on the outside of the case works really well, and I use it quite often, but no umbrellas. I suppose you could wrap them with your tripod somehow, and that would work as the tripod holder is flexible...

Now that I've continued using this bag for several months, it simply is an amazing bag. I absolutely love it. It is everything you need for an 'everything bag'. Of course, I kept my Crumpler 5MDH for when I just want to bring one camera and maybe just one lens, but wedding or large shoot time, this bag fits the bill! ;)

FYI. Hunts photo has a special on ThinkTank this weekend. I just got 20% off an Airport International. Contact digitalguygary@wbhunt.com (external link) for the discount. I am NOT affiliated with them, just want to pass on the rare deal info.
