Overall the image doesn't do it for me.

-it's soft, oof/camera shake with too wide an aperture?
-unimpressive lighting - overcast and drab
-foreground interest is not particularly striking, and the branches of the foremost tree are jumbled up with the ones behind it.

However despite these technical deficiencies I'm getting a nice quaint, peaceful atmosphere from the shot. Perhaps a lower perspective might have improved things?

I have to agree with tomtom1 on this one. A lower perspective and greater DOF would make a big difference. I'd like to see the wall more in focus, but I'd also like to see the farm a little more clearly. I think the subject has great potential. Any chance of re-visiting the spot?

All I want is just a little more than I'll ever have.

The haze seems to detract from both images, this may be the cause of the soft focus appearance. Pretty scene, deserves another photo sesion.

Summed up quite well. Of course if this scene has special interest to you then it's quite different. Due to the subdued colors, if I had to pick I'd say I'd choose the b/w version. Again though, after taking into account the above comments.

cheers for the comments, ive had another look at my settings and its that what's messed things up, i was shooting at f/2 which is possibly the worst thing i could of done. i think it was down to the fact it was drizzling, so i did'nt want to get my equipment wet. so i rushed. anyway i take the dog walking round those parts once a month atleast so there's no problem about getting back there. just watch this space.

ill just have to pay more attention to my settings next time!

thanks again,
Jack
