Many folks just starting out will blame poor image quality on their lenses and bodies.

But a lot of these issues are really due to the user not understanding the basic concepts of proper exposure, correct use of the focusing points of their particular camera, or which program modes to use in specific instances. I also think that extreme pixel peeking is a major reason for user disatisfaction when trying to appreciate images. Fine art and great images should not be appreciated from a "nose-length" in a gallery or at 100% crop.

I've had a long list of lenses returned for repair/adjustment. Canon took care of all the issue but some were not completely fixed until MFA was introduced. This is my lens bad boy list
18-55 non-IS - ERR99 on a XT
28-135 - ERR99 on a XT returned a second time as aperature was very inconsistent and would greatly over expose by many many stops. Module replaced
100-400 - front focus. Returned three times. Canon got it close but this is one of the lenses that did not get completely fixed until MFA bodies appeared.
24-70 - front focus.
70-300 ERR99. Turned out to be the camera not the lens.

I know I'm forgetting one or two but my experience has been about 50%/50% before MFA. With MFA I have had no issues as all front/back focus problems have been well within the MFA adjustment limits.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Hi,
I am CheshireCat's 24-70L. I created this poll while he is out drinking a beer.
I can't believe he sold me yesterday. After all the time we spent together.

He said I wasn't sharp enough. The problem is that the lazy *ss never brings a tripod with him.
I have no IS and he should know indoor shots are problematic. Let alone the fact that the 5D2 Auto ISO is totally lame. And he knows it. But he blames all that missed pictures on me ! How could he ? How ?

Have to go now, he's back.
Thanks for participating in my catharsis poll.

Yours truly,
24-70L

Consistently fails to deliver precise enough positioning to use the our (zoom) capacity the fullest.
Fails to be stable enough for good sharpness when taking handheld macros

Hey, what tha... my 24-70L stole my forum account !!!
No problem though. It's the plain truth.
And I'll keep the poll open !

gjl711, thanks for defending us humans (though I guess your XT body could have been the real problem.. ;)).

P.S. By the way, I sold the 24-70L to buy a 35L. It was very sharp actually.

Hello, my name is Sigma 70-200 Macro the 1st. Dstanic sold me to my current owner, a guy who uses me on a big Sony video recorder with EOS adapter. Now I don't have to worry about autofocusing anymore! I guess I was just too useless at f/2.8, I didn't like to produce anything remotely sharp until f/4. I'm just a big heavy, LAZY lens! It's too bad the owner prior to Dstanic send him sample pics that were websized, Dstanic should have known better and demanded for full resolution shots to see how delinquent of a lens I really am. Canon 70-200 called me up the other day, he says life is good!

Sometimes, I don't see light for days, dare I say weeks. He leaves me alone in the dark, in the corner. He says I am too big, too slow and his kids are too fast. I tried to tell him that I am gentle, tender, sweet.
"You must learn patience", I cried to him. And once you mastered patience, I can make time stop, dire memories disappear. I can make magic out of thin light as no others, you will experience nirvana, enlightment. I will not fail you as I belong to you. 85L

Only the 24-60 has ever given me problems and that's because of the front-focusing issue. I even go far as saying I like my 50 1.8.

Nifty fifty here, I'm a depressed emo lens and nobody loves me! I'm currently with my 4th or 5th owner, I just keep getting moved around like a foster child. :( THEY SAY that my kind are optically sharp, unfortunately that is not the case for me. Dstanic acquired me by trading a couple cheap ND filters and $20 from my previous owner. I was DStanic's second nifty, unfortunately for me he compared me to his 85mm f/1.8 which is MUUUUCH sharper and next thing I know I'm in a little brown box being sent somewhere else!

I wish someone would send me to Canon for calibration, but I'm just a cheap plastic $100 lens :( I hope my next owner has a camera with micro adjust so that we can get along. :(

It was. It's how I came to these forums years ago. I had three seperat ERR99 causing issues, one with the kit lens, one with the 28-135, and one with the body. I did not have all my gear together for nearly 6 months as Canon was fixing one thing or another. All other issues were focus issues.

I am a Tamron 28-75 and I was sick. My owner sent me in to get a check up and they found something was wrong with me. They operated on me and now my owner is very happy with my performance and I doubt he'll ever send me to the pound.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I am pprice's 24-70 and also a cousin to the thread starter. Pprice is a moron, but he sure does love me, so I do my best to make his lack of talent shine. After a long day out with him, I am beat and ready for a good nights sleep, but now he has started trying to do night shots....I guess I will sleep when he decides to give me a break, and use my stupid step sister know as 70-200. I heard that he is planning to add to our happy little family some cat they call the 300 2.8....I hope this dude don't think he is just going to bust up in here and take up all our room with his fat a$$.

No, it's the body's fault.
